Regular readers may have noticed that I’ve turned on the option for paid subscriptions for (All (Parentheses)), and I wanted to write a post clarifying what that means.
Most of the work on the site has been and will continue to be free. Going forward, only new work (by which I mean reviews/essays penned in the year of our Lord 2023 onward) will be subject to a paywall of three months, after which time they will be made free in the archive for all to see. It’s also my initial intent to mix and match that paywall (sending out some new pieces free, and others paywalled) until I build up a good head of creative steam again.
A number of life upheavals have taken me away from regular reviewing and movie watching, and as the storm now feels like it’s dissipating, it’s my intent to get back more fully to the work I love. But I also know there’s some rust on the wheels to scrub away, and some likely distractions ahead, in particular a long-gestating book project I’m hoping to make significant headway on over the summer. This is all part of the reason I consider the paid subscription model to be purely a form of patronage/early access for those interested.
The paywall won’t apply to the archive reviews from my tenure at Time Out New York that I’m currently reposting. Nor to my V-R-L logs, which I’d like to be available to all readers from the moment I hit publish. Nor to the “Guest Posts” written by contributors other than myself. And as I say, certain of the new pieces will be free from the start until I feel like I’m producing work at a good clip again. Once a paywalled post gets past the three month mark, it will be made free for all to read.
Paid subscribers will also have the ability to comment on pieces, a feature I prefer to keep off otherwise.
Those interested in a paid subscription to (All (Parentheses)) can choose between memberships of $6 a month or $60 a year. You should be able to access the subscription page via the button at the bottom of this post.
Whether a paid or free subscriber, please know I appreciate your support as readers above all else, and there will always be plenty to engage with here whatever your level of patronage. Thank you very much.
