★☆☆☆☆
Dirs. David Palmer and Dax Shepard. 2012. R. 100mins. Shepard, Kristen Bell, Bradley Cooper.
Multihyphenate comic Shepard plays Charlie Bronson (hoo-boy), a former thief living comfortably in the witness-protection boonies with his girlfriend, Annie (Bell, a.k.a. Mrs. Dax Shepard). But when the lady gets a plum job opportunity in Los Angeles, our hero’s checkered past — which includes a vengeful gangsta wanna-be (Cooper) and a buried satchel of money — comes back to haunt him. Interminable scenes of macho posturing and mock-Tarantino dialogue (including a lengthy dissection of the word fags!) mark time between a number of ineptly staged car chases that would embarrass the makers of Cannonball Run II.—Keith Uhlich
