Resident Evil: Afterlife
Time Out New York Project: Issue #781, September 16-22, 2010
★★★☆☆
Dir. Paul W.S. Anderson. 2010. R. 97mins. Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller.
You all know Alice (Jovovich), the luscious butt-kicker out to bring down the evil Umbrella corporation in an undead-infested future. This time out she’s searching for the mythical, humans-only haven known as Arcadia, which takes her from Japan to Alaska and finally to Los Angeles, where she holes up with several pieces of zombie bait. Anderson makes often-inspiring use of the 3-D effects, though he never quite tops the opening Shibuya Crossing bloodbath — a sanguine B-side to the pickpocket finale of Johnnie To’s 2008 crime-cinema gem Sparrow.—Keith Uhlich
